The ‘Blanket’ is the term used to describe the fleece from the body of an alpaca, which is the finest part of the animal and contains the best fleece. This is premium fibre. Alpaca fleece is very soft to handle, and is a luxurious product used for all kinds of spinning, felting, arts and crafts. Once spun it can be used for crochet, knitting, weaving, and rug making. The White fibre also takes to dying very well. Fibres can be blended together to make you own variations of colours. Unlike sheep wool, alpaca wool is hypo-allergenic as it doesn’t contain lanolin. Therefore, it feels soft and smooth against the skin and doesn't irritate. It is a good insulator, keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
